Programs & Services Committee Report – June 4, 2025

The Programs & Services Committee voted to approve the following (see report and watch the meeting video):

  • Appropriation of $150,000 for Library data wiring upgrades (4–0). The project will improve connectivity, data security, and transmission speed in the Newton Free Library’s meeting and study rooms, and add security cameras and door locking systems.
  • Transfer of $150,000 for legal services (4–0). Funds will support outside legal counsel during a vacancy in the Law Department’s labor relations position.
  • Reappointment of Andria Tieman-Michney as a Newton Library Trustee for a term expiring June 30, 2030 (4–0).
  • Reappointment of Shawn Fitzgibbons to the Licensing Board for a term expiring June 2, 2031 (4–0).

The Programs & Services Committee took no action on the following:

  • Appropriation of $75,000 for a Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan (4–0; no action necessary). The Administration withdrew the request.
