The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) will host a paddling event at the Charles River Boathouse (2401 Commonwealth Ave, Auburndale) on July 26, 12 Noon to 5PM, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of AMC’s Boston chapter. Parking is available across the river in the public lot on Nurembega Road, by the Duck Feeding Area (map).
Volunteer instructors and leaders will teach kayak basics, such as posture, techniques, and methods for efficiently moving and maneuvering boats. There will be tours on the Charles headed by AMC leaders. There will be whitewater, flatwater, and sea kayaks to try out. (Rental boats are also available from PaddleBoston.) Learn about AMC’s paddling clinics and trips.
AMC’s non-profit mission is to enable people to be active outdoors on the water. That includes paddling local rivers and ponds, whitewater on the Deerfield river, as well as trips along the Massachusetts and Maine coasts. The AMC offer group paddling trips for those uncomfortable paddling alone. AMC’s volunteer leaders are vetted and trained.
