Preston Settles Memorial Fund: PS3 Casino Night, June 11

Preston Settles Memorial Fund (PSMF) will host PS3 Casino Night, a fundraising event on Wednesday, June 11, 6PM-11PM at the Cyclorama in Boston. It will be a fun-filled, purposeful evening of casino games, music, dancing, delicious food headlined by chefs Lydia Shire and Douglass Williams, auction items, and more—all in support of increasing on-site AED/defibrillator availability at sporting events beyond the current limited requirements at health clubs and schools. Net proceeds will fund research on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, provide AEDs to communities in need throughout the Commonwealth, and support opportunities to increase survival rates following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

PSMF was founded in memory of Newton North HS student Preston Blair Settles, who passed away at just 15 years old due to a sudden cardiac arrest caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) while playing basketball. Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death among young athletes, representing nearly one-third of all athletic field deaths in the U.S. The actual number of young athletes lost to HCM each year remains unreported and unknown.
