Greening the Houses of Worship: Sustainable investment, June 11

As part of Newton’s Greening the Houses of Worship series, the Creation Care Team of the Eliot Church of Newton will host a plant-based potluck supper to hear from Urban Larson on the topic of “Sustainable Investment” on June 11 at 7PM at the Eliot Church (474 Center Street, Newton Corner).

Attendees are invited to bring a dish to share for a plant-based potluck. This means no meat, fish, chicken, eggs, dairy, or animal products of any kind. Utensils, tableware, cups, and glasses will be provided from Eliot’s kitchen stocks. The Church will have induction hot plates available (bring the right pots and your own cup) and provide water and Black Earth composting. Plastic containers are strongly discouraged.

Please RSVP online.

Urban Larson chairs the Board of Investment at First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton (FUUSN). He has over thirty years of experience as an investment professional and advisor with a focus in sustainable investing. He teaches “Introduction to Sustainable Investing” at Duke University. Urban has a BA from the University of Chicago, an MBA from HEC Paris, and a Sustainable Investing Professional Certification from Concordia University in Montreal.

Larson’s talk will provide a roadmap for responsible stewardship as houses of faith across the area contemplate investing strategies that meet their ecological and social justice missions.

The Greening the Houses of Worship series is sponsored by the Creation Care Team of the Eliot Church of Newton and co-sponsored by FUUSN’s Climate Action Task Force, the Boston Catholic Climate Movement, Green Newton, SHOL Newton’s Creation Care Team, and Massachusetts Interfaith Power & Light.
