On Saturday, well more than 100 people came together in Newton Centre to protest the many
violations of American democracy committed by the Donald Trump administration since January
20, 2025. The DOGE czar was singled out for some of the most virulent criticism. The large
enthusiastic crowd gathered at the intersection of Centre and Beacon Streets, spilling over onto
nearby crossings, and consisted mostly of seniors. Waving participants earned loud honks and
waves of solidarity from scores of drivers and passengers passing through the intersection. The
Stand Out was co-sponsored by the Newton Democratic City Committee and Resist and is now
a weekly event to meet every Saturday from 12-1 at the Centre and Beacon Street intersection.
