Newton Conservators: Edmands Park Pollinator BioBlitz, June 7

The Newton Conservators will host a Edmands Park Pollinator Bioblitz on Saturday, June 7, 10:30AM-12:30PM, to help people of all ages to explore the plants and wildlife of Edmands Park (63 Blake Street, Newtonville) and improve plant identification skills. Registration is free.

Come explore the pollinators of Edmands Park and improve insect identi cation skills. Surrounded by stone walls and bordered by Boston College Law School on one side, this park contains woods, small clearings, wetlands, Edmands Brook, and a glacial esker. Its open oak forest contains beeches, locusts, maples, birches, and pines.

These BioBlitz events are part of a larger effort by the Newton Conservators to document and raise awareness about the great diversity of plants and animals that inhabit Newton’s open spaces.  At the beginning of the event, will be a brief tutorial on the iNaturalist app, which is used to document species and as an identification aid. Download this free and useful identification app to your phone or tablet beforehand from the Apple App Store for iOS or the Google Play Store for Android. The current iNaturalist project for Flowed Meadow and Auburndale Park includes previous observations.

For more info, contact trip leader Jonathan Regosin at jonathan.regosin@gmail.com.

Parking is available along Blake Street. Enter at north end, near the old field habitat as shown in the map here.
