City Council Meetings – Week of 1/5/2025

City Council will meet in person (Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, January 6 at 7:45PM, broadcast live NewTV’s government channel (Comcast 9, RCN 13, 614(HD), Verizon 33) and NewTV’s Youtube channel. See Reports Docket and New Docket.

Land Use Committee’s regularly scheduled meeting has been canceled. See Meeting Cancellation Notice.

Public Facilities Committee’s regularly scheduled meeting has been canceled. See Meeting Cancellation Notice.

Programs and Services will meet in person (Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, January 8 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Appointment of Armine Freeman, Evelyn Shih, Leyla Gustin, and Naman Dadlani to the Youth Commission
  • Appointment of W. David Power to the Election Commission
  • Reappointment of Rhiannon Esposito to the Youth Commission
  • Request to move Ward 3, Precinct 2 Polling Location currently located at Temple Shalom at 175 Temple Street to The Warren House at 1600 Washington Street
  • Request to appropriate and expend $180,000 from June 30, 2024 Certified Free Cash to support the March 2025 Special Election to fill the vacant Ward 7 School Committee seat
  • Request a discussion and amendment to Chapter 20 Section 3 or sections as appropriate to prohibit the sale of tobacco in Newton to anyone born on or after January 1, 2000
  • Request for a complete review and appropriate changes to the Rules of the City Council

Public Safety and Transportation will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, January 8 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Request for a discussion with the Fire Department on year-over-year data, which may include fires, injuries, inspections, hiring, and overtime.
  • Request for a regular discussion with the Police Department of police data, including crashes, types of calls, numbers, and dispositions.
