Newton-based composer Ruth Hertzman-Miller has created Composite Chamber Players (CCP) to bring new music by living composers to the metropolitan Boston community. CCP will present a post-holiday concert, Explorations, on January 12 at 7PM in the Keller Room at Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough Street, Boston).
The concert by four local musicians “will surprise and delight the audience by exploring the outer limits of possibility for four instruments: flute, vibraphone, guitar, and piano.” Many of the pieces make use of contemporary, “extended” musical techniques such as playing instruments in new ways or modifying them temporarily. Listeners can expect to hear prepared piano, with objects inserted between the strings to change their timbres and pitches, contemporary flute techniques such as flutter-tonguing and the use of key clicks, and a vibraphone paired with snare drums to create sympathetic vibrations.
Boston Conservatory alumni Hannah Elizabeth Tobias (flute) and Ryan Chao (vibraphone), Indiana University alumnus/current Boston Conservatory student Yuseok Seol (piano), and New England Conservatory alumnus Robert Bekkers (guitar) bring the program to life.
Tickets are $20 or pay-what-you-can.
