Newton’s Department of Public Works will host the City’s 5th Annual Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, November 2, 1-4PM. Bring your Halloween pumpkins to City Hall’s War Memorial Circle (1000 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton Centre), where they will be flung, tossed, and smashed in various ways, including with machines made by the Newton LigerBots, Newton’s high school robotics team. Pre-register for the event or register on-site.
All smashed pumpkins will be composted, thus reducing waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and helping to return nutrients and water back to the earth.
- Remove any candles or decorations from your pumpkin (paint is okay).
- Bring any excess candy to be donated to local food pantries.
- Bring your extra Halloween costumes to be donated to the “Swap” at the event. Attendees can find costumes to take home too.
