City Council

The City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.

Finance will meet on Tuesday to consider requests to:

  • Solicit proposals from outside special counsel to assist the City in analyzing the City’s rights and remedies regarding enforcement of permits and approvals at the Turtle Lane site in Auburndale
  • Appoint Christopher di Bonaventura as a trustee of the Other Post-Employment Benefits Trust Fund
  • Accept $50,000 from the FY25 Community Compact to develop an Economic Development Plan
  • Accept $217,800 from MassDOT Shared Streets and Spaces Program for BlueBikes bike-share operations
  • Accept $50,000 from the FY25 Community Compact to develop a Wage and Classification Plan
  • Expend $14,350 from Fire Prevention Fine Receipts Reserve for Appropriation for enforcement, training, and education of Fire Prevention Officers
  • Accept $585,989 of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighter funds for the purchase of AEDs, training, and fitness/wellness classes

Rules Subcommittee will meet on Thursday to continue its review of City Council Rules, including:

  • Items referred to the Public Safety & Transportation Committee
  • A dress code
  • Amendments from the Clerk’s office regarding the hygiene of the document
  • What items are referred to the Real Property Reuse Committee
  • Incorporation of the Financial Audit Advisory Committee into the City Council Rules

Traffic Council will meet on Thursday to consider:

  • Parking regulations on Nonantum Place, the section of Charlesbank Road between Saint James Street and Centre Street, and potentially Jefferson Street, Russell Road, and Maple Street
  • Possible change to the parking regulations on Russell Road
  • A parking prohibition on portions of the west side of Jackson Road, near 150 Jackson Road
  • A trial of changes to the parking and circulation on streets near the new Lincoln-Eliot School at 150 Jackson Road and the building at 191 Pearl Street, to facilitate opening of these schools next year
  • A Safety Zone on a section of Waverley Avenue near Burr Park
  • Restricting parking on both sides of the block of Farwell Street between North Street and Joseph Road

School Committee

The School Committee is not scheduled to meet this week.

The School Committee’s Negotiation Subcommittee will meet in Executive Session on Wednesday for a a grievance hearing with the Newton Teachers Association.

Boards and Commissions

Library Board of Trustees Finance Committee will meet on Tuesday to consider Q1 financial review and FY25 goals

Board of License Commissioners will meet on Tuesday to consider requests for:

  • One-Day Temporary Entertainment Licenses for West Suburban YMCA, a City Hall War Memorial concert, and Boston College Alumni Homecoming
  • One-Day Temporary All Alcohol Licenses for Paddy’s Road Race, four classes at New Art Center, Longwood Covered Courts Season Opening Party, and three events at Church of the Redeemer
  • Change of Hours at Buff’s Pub
  • New Common Victualler License for Barry’s Village Deli
  • New Common Victualler and Annual Entertainment License at Bill’s Pizzeria
  • Change of On-site Manager at the Friendly Toast
  • Change of Management and Ownership Interest at Aji Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar
  • John Sisson, Director of Economic Development, to discuss availability of liquor licenses for commercial enterprises

Board of Assessors will meet on Wednesday to approve the September 2024 Exemption and Abatement Reports.

Election Commission will meet on Tuesday for High Speed Tabulator testing before the November 5 election.

Library Board of Trustees Facilities Committee will meet on Wednesday to consider LLB recommendations and its project list.

Design Review Committee will meet on Wednesday with the Franklin School Building Committee at 6PM and the Horace Mann School Building Committee at 7:30PM.

Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on Wednesday to consider Ch. 40B proposals for:

  • A 16-unit residential development at 41 Washington Street including 4 affordable units
  • A 307-unit residential development at 78-84 Crafts Street and abutting streets including 62 affordable units and 263 parking spaces

Chestnut Hill Historic District Commission will meet on Thursday to consider:
