Based on unofficial results, the Massachusetts State Primary election on September 3 determined the Democratic nominees for State Representative in two districts:
11th Middlesex District: Amy Sangiolo (5,055) won over Alex Jablon (1,022). As the Democratic nominee, Sangiolo will run against Republican Vlad Yanovsky in the General Election on November 5. The winner in that election will succeed Rep. Kay Khan, who is retiring.
With about 80% of the vote, former City Councilor and former Mayoral candidate Amy Sangiolo won an easy victory over first-time candidate Alex Jablon. Vlad Yanovsky ran unopposed for the Republican nomination.
Sangiolo said to Fig City News, “I am truly humbled and honored. Thank you to the voters of the 11th Middlesex District for electing me to be the Democratic nominee for State Representative and for giving me the chance to fight for you on the issues that matter to you. I also want to thank my opponent, Alex Jablon, for his willingness to step up to serve, and I encourage him to stay involved. Now I ask the voters for their continued support in the General Election in November.”
12th Middlesex District: In a closely contested election, former City Councilor Greg Schwartz (3,350) won the nomination against current City Councilors Bill Humphrey (2,564) and Rick Lipof (2,493). As the Democratic nominee, Schwartz will run unopposed in the General Election on November 5 and will presumably succeed Rep. Ruth Balser, who is retiring.
Schwartz told Fig City News, “I am so grateful to the voters of the Middlesex 12th for putting your trust in me. From Upper Falls to Waban to Newton Centre to Chestnut Hill, you shared with me your hopes and concerns about our district and our Commonwealth. I commit to putting my heart and soul into serving you and making progress on the issues that we all care so much about. I want to express my deep gratitude as well to my opponents in this race, Rick Lipof and Bill Humphrey. They both care deeply about our community, and I look forward to continuing to work with them.”
Full election results are posted on the Newton and Brookline government websites.
