What’s Up in Newton – Week of 8/4/2024

Highlights this Week:

  • School Committee not meeting this week, after its comprehensive planning session last week
  • Planning and Development Board considering zoning amendments
  • Cooper Center (NewCAL) Community Construction Meeting

City Council

Public Safety & Transportation Committee will meet on Wednesday to discuss parking on-street and in municipal lots. Topics include permits, time limits, street sweeping, odd/even parking days, removing parking, overnight parking bans, costs of parking tickets, and comparisons with neighboring communities.

Schools

There are no School Committee meetings scheduled for this week.

Boards and Commissions

Planning & Development Board will meet on Monday to consider:

  • Rezoning two parcels at 329-331 River Street and 335 River Street from Single Residence 3 to Multi-Residence (continuation of public hearing)
  • Discuss and possibly vote on possible amendments to Chapter 30, Zoning to require that building height be measured from original grade instead of finished grade
  • Amendments to enhance the preservation of existing homes
  • Selection of Planning Board representative to the Community Preservation Committee

Newton Farm Commission will meet on Thursday to consider:

  • Farm & Field Operations
  • Financials Q2, 2024
  • Educational Programming
  • Buildings, Grounds, and other Infrastructure Issues

Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commission will meet on Thursday to consider:

  • Certificates of Appropriateness for requests to:
    • Amend previously approved plans to include additional vents at 1036-1038 Chestnut Street
    • Replace front and back doors, and repair and change back entry stairs, railing system, and landing at 53 Linden Street
  • Working Sessions:
    • Request to renovate house, rebuild front entry porch, raise height of roof, demolish chimney, rear addition and garage, and build rear addition at 103 High Street
    • Feedback on project to renovate the existing house, enlarge the dormer, build an addition on the back, and make changes to the side elevations, driveways, and hardscaping at 16-20 Winter Street.
    • Feedback on proposed renovation of and addition to the existing building, new multi-unit building and driveway at 981 Chestnut Street.

NewCAL (Cooper Center for Active Living) Community Construction Meeting (Zoom link) will be on Tuesday, August 6, 6PM-8PM. Agenda has not been posted.

Development Review Team will meet regarding a potential project at 30-32 Braeland Avvenue.
