As someone who did not pay much attention to municipal politics as a teenager, I was impressed when I first met Amy Sangiolo at a meet and greet during her 2017 campaign for Mayor. While I will forever regret forgetting to request my absentee ballot to vote for her that year, I continue to be impressed with how engaged Amy is with Newton at large.
With so much happening at the local level, I appreciate how Amy puts residents first by letting them know about upcoming hearings and events through her newsletter. That way, we are all able to engage with our municipal officials. As a testament of how effective her newsletter is, it inspired the creation of Fig City News, which helped spark a revival in local media after the Newton Tab faded into obscurity.
With Newton being more divided than ever, Amy has the relationships with stakeholders on all sides to serve effectively on Beacon Hill. While I do not always see eye to eye with Amy, I appreciate how she’s considerate and respectful of differing viewpoints and delivers for all Newton residents. In addition, considering how nasty primaries can be nowadays, I appreciate how she’s run a positive and inclusive campaign in her race.
From housing to transportation to the climate crisis, there is so much to be done for Newton as well as the rest of Massachusetts and I know Amy will get results. She has my vote!
