Newton people in the news…

Dr. Michael Jellinek

Michael Jellinek, M.D. has been appointed to the Board of Trustees at William James College. He was Chief of Child Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, co-developer of the widely used Pediatric Symptom Checklist for emotional problems, President of Newton Wellesley Hospital, Chief Clinical Officer of Partners HealthCare (now MGB) responsible for the $1.2 billion implementation of the EPIC medical record system, and CEO of Community Network and EVP of Lahey Health System. He has received the  William James College Mental Health Humanitarian Award and Newton Wellesley Hospital’s inaugural Community Champion Award.

The following Newton students are among the 18 students who received scholarships this year from The Village Bank’s Auburndale Community Charitable Foundation.

Phoebe Anthony, Village Bank President & CEO Joseph A. De Vito, Ethan Holson
  • Two students each received a $10,000 scholarship in recognition of their academic achievement and their active involvement as leaders in community and charitable causes:
    • Phoebe Anthony – Newton South High School
    • Ethan Holson – Boston College High School (and formerly of Newton South High School)
  • These six Newton students were among 16 who received $2,000 scholarships in recognition of their academic achievement:
    • Benjamin Brambilla – Newton North High School
    • Gabriella Bonadio – Newton North High School
    • Elias King – Newton South High School
    • Elyssa Rosen – Newton South High School
    • Ava Salemme – Newton North High School
    • Daniel Viveiros – Newton North High School

The following students graduated this spring from Quinnipiac University with Bachelor of Science degrees:

  • Zachary Iwatsuki (Health Science Studies)
  • Jonas Vorbau (Health Science)

The following students graduated this spring from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Letters and Science:

  • Eddie Engelman (Bachelor of Science in Computer Sciences)
  • Justin Pond (Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Legal Studies, and Political Science)
