WNCF: Paradise – Opening night & panel discussion, June 28

The West Newton Cinema Foundation will host an exclusive opening-night screening of the critically acclaimed film Paradise, followed by an engaging panel discussion featuring the film’s producer and notable guests from the Sri Lankan and South Indian communities. The event will take place on July 28, 6PM-8:30PM at the West Newton Cinema (1296 Washington Street, West Newton). Tickets can be purchased here.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage, Paradise tells the gripping story of an Indian couple’s anniversary trip to Sri Lanka that takes a dark turn after a robbery. The film delves into themes of justice, marital discord, and socio-political issues against the backdrop of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis, making it a profound cinematic experience.

The film has garnered international acclaim, premiering at prestigious festivals such as the Busan International Film Festival and the Mumbai International Film Festival. With its powerful narrative and evocative portrayal of human relationships and societal struggles, Paradise offers a compelling exploration of contemporary issues through a deeply personal lens. All are invited to witness a film that masterfully blends personal drama with broader societal themes — and to stay for the post-screening panel, where insights and perspectives on the film’s impact will be shared.
