Poetry Party at Newtonville Books, Aug. 4

Newtonville Books (10 Langley Road, Newton Centre) will host a Poetry Party on August 4 at 2PM to celebrate the launch of Something in That Space, a new book of five song collections by Newton resident Ingrid Chiemi. At the party, four to five local poets will each read poems, and Chiemi will perform songs from her book.

Net proceeds from the book will benefit the Fred T. Korematsu Institute, which seeks to educate more people about the incarceration of people of Japanese ancestry during WWII and tell the interconnected stories of other communities. “This collection is about change, as we navigate our future together. Covid and the forced isolation it brought has changed us and made us more aware of the importance of connecting, … This book is also about change beyond our control.”

The print edition will be carried at Newtonville Books.
