A drizzle at the start of Sunday, May 19 threatened to drive away traditional crowds for Waban Village Day, but as the drizzle disappeared the event became a lively gathering, powered by the music of DVinci Soul. Over 200 participated in the annual Family Fun Run, kicked off by the traditional countdown from Mayor Ruthanne Fuller.
Chris Pitts — president of both the Waban Improvement Society and the Waban Area Council — said, “Not counting COVID, we have been shut down only two times by the elements since we started Waban Village Day in May 2005 — once for rain and once halfway for intense heat. This year, a drizzle dampened attendance some, but it was still a very healthy turnout. Our goal is community-building, and getting neighbors out to meet each other is what it’s all about. Mission accomplished!”
