The West Newton Cinema Foundation will present two free events — a panel discussion and a lecture — at the West Newton Cinema (1296 Washington Street, West Newton).
Behind the Screen: One Life: April 25, 8PM-9PM. Free panel discussion about the film. Reserve here. One Life is a biographical drama that chronicles the heroic efforts of Nicholas Winton to save Jewish children during the Holocaust. Panelists include:
- Charles Dellheim (Professor of History at Boston University)
- Michelle Ephraim (Shakespeare scholar, Professor of English at Worcester Polytechnic Institute)
- Jonathan Wilson (Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, Fletcher Professor of Rhetoric and Debate Emeritus at Tufts University)
- Mark Lowenstein, moderator (former Board member of the Boston Jewish Film Festival)
The Beatles’ Revolver Lecture: April 28, 4PM-5:30PM. Free lecture going behind the scenes into Abbey Road studios in 1966 and the making of Revolver by The Beatles. Reserve here. A multitude of images, video and audio clips reveal the stories behind the songs. A result of an extensive research, the event is offers insights into the groundbreaking techniques utilized to produce the album. Songs include: Tomorrow Never Knows, Rain, Eleanor Rigby, I’m Only Sleeping, Got to Get You Into My Life, and many more. Lecturer: Hayim Kobi, music historian and owner of The Music Aficionado, a music blog.
The West Newton Cinema Foundation aims to raise the funds to:
- Acquire the West Newton Cinema before the deadline to purchase expires on August 10, 2024, thereby saving the building from demolition.
- Restore and renovate the building to fulfill its mission of fostering joy and deepening community connections through innovative and engaging film programming.
