City Council Meetings – Week of 4/28/2024

Finance will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, April 29 at 7PM. The agenda includes:

  • Appointments of Marcia Tabenken and Rabbi Allison Berry for lifetime appointment to the John C. Chaffin Educational Fund
  • Requests:
    • Accept and expend $500,000 from a Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources Green Communities Grant to complete the funding for the replacement of the Newton Free Library’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system
    • Transfer $100,000 from Newton Free Library Full Time Salaries to replace aging computers and technology at the Library
    • Appropriate and expend $1,000,000 from Certified Free Cash for the purpose of replacing one 2008 and two 2007 6-wheel dump trucks with two 6-wheel dump trucks and one 10-wheel swap loader truck for the Streets Division operations
    • Appropriate and expend $315,0000 from the Water Fund Surplus account and $300,000 from the Sewer Fund Surplus account for the purchase of a hydro vacuum excavator trailer to enhance digging safety measures
    • Appropriate and expend $500,000 from the Water Fund Surplus account to Water Hydrant Inspections, Engineering Services to fund a water hydrant flushing program to ensure proper water circulation and water quality within the water main system
    • Accept and expend the State’s Revolving Fund Grant of $150,000 to update the Stormwater Asset Management Plan and $75,000 from the Stormwater Management Operating Reserve to provide the City share of matching funds for this program. The grant also includes $25,000 additional match of in-kind services from City staff.

Zoning and Planning will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, April 30 at 6:30PM. The agenda includes:

  • Reappointment of Brooke Lipsitt to the Zoning Board of Appeals
  • Appointment of Edward J. Dailey to the Planning and Development Board
  • Appointment of Terrence Brown to the Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commission
