LWVN: Topic meeting on PFAS (Forever Chemicals), Feb. 29

On Thursday, February 29, the League of Women Voters of Newton – together with its cosponsors Better Action Now on Artificial Turf in Newton, Green Newton, and Mothers Out Front Newton – will hold a Topic Meeting on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a group of man-made chemical compounds known as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down easily in the environment.

The Topic Meeting will take place in the Druker Auditorium at the Newton Free Library (330 Homer Street, Newton) at 7PM. The meeting will consist of a presentation followed by a question and answer session.  All are welcome.

Panelists include:

  • Halina Brown, past Professor of Toxicology at Clark University and past Chair of the Newton Energy Commission;
  • Deirdre Cummings, MassPIRG Legislative Director;
  • Wendy Heiger-Bernays, Boston University Professor of Environmental Health; and
  • Katharine Lange, Policy Director, Massachusetts Rivers Alliance.
