Land Use – 1/23/2024 Report

The Land Use Committee voted to approve the following (see Report and watch NewTV video):

  • Request for Extension of Time to Exercise a perviously approved special permt at 1 Jackson Street. According to the report, the request was made because of delayed financing and the petitioner expects to begin construction soon. The Committee voted to hold 7-0, Councilor Leary not voting.
  • Request to amend a previously approved comprehensive sign package and special permit at 1-55 Boylston Street. According to the report, 11 new signs are proposed and an expansion of three existing sign bands to help highlight ground-level shops that are less visible in The Street complex. The Committee voted to approve 8-0. See Special Permit documents and Draft Council Order.

The Land Use Committee voted to Hold:

  • Request to amend a previously approved special permit and allow a free-standing sign at 269-287 Grove Street. (4-3, Councilors Downs, Kelley, and Lucas Opposed and Councilor Leary Not Voting) The Urban Design Commission recommended denying the request because the sign for Kendall Kitchen would be next to the main building sign. Petitioner is willing to relocate the sign. Some on the Council are concerned the sign would be placed on a designated scenic roadway. The Committee voted 4-3, Councilors Downs, Kelley, and Lucas Opposed and Councilor Leary Not Voting. See Special Permit documents.
  • Request to allow a parking stall within five feet of the street and to waive parking stall depth at 113 Edinboro Street. Petitioner requesting a continuance to complete a resurvey of the property. The Committee voted to hold (8-0). See Special Permit documents.
