City Council Meetings – Week of 2/4/2024

City Council Chairs will meet in person (Room 204) and virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, February 5 at 6:45PM. The agenda includes the following:

Land Use will meet in person (Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, February 6 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following requests:

Note: The Committee will review a request for a consistency ruling for 148 Auburndale Avenue to extend the second floor and to enclose the approved covered patio. See Planning Memo.

  • Extension of Time to December 19, 2024, to exercise a previously approved Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to construct additions to the rear and the side of the dwelling and to construct dormers at 96 Waban Park
  • Extension of Time to March 6, 2026 to exercise a previously approved Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to raze the existing nonconforming three-unit multifamily dwelling and construct a five-unit residential dwelling at 194 Adams Street
  • Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to allow a series of retaining walls exceeding four feet in height in the front setback at 161 Pine Ridge Road – See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo
  • Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to construct a single-story rear addition which will further extend the nonconforming FAR at 21 Marvin Lane – See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo
  • Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to construct additions to the existing dwelling, to convert the single-family dwelling into a two-family dwelling, and adding a half-story which vertically extends the nonconforming front setback at 300 Cabot Street – See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo
  • Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to raze the existing hip roof of the detached garage, replacing it with a flat roof to be used as a deck, with the construction of retaining walls to the interior of the property, and extending the existing driveway at 19 Waban Hill Road – See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo
  • Amend a previously approved Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to substitute a cash payment in lieu of providing the units at 136-144 Hancock Street – See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo

Public Facilities will meet in person (Room 204) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, February 7 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following requests:

  • Discussion with Department of Public Works about what the department has done to prepare residents for unanticipated water bills.
  • Discussion with Utilities Division on issues related to non-working water meter transponders including past and current billing procedures, and potential improvements for remainder of new meter installation period.

Public Safety and Transportation will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, February 7 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Appeal of Traffic Council approval to prohibit parking at all times along the following areas of Farwell Street: south and west side from a point 170 feet west of Farwell Circle to North Street (southerly intersection). This appeal relates to the block of Farwell Street between Joseph Road and North Street.
  • Appeal of Traffic Council denial of a request for a trial that would restrict access to Centre Street, southerly from Walnut Street, to all vehicles except bicycles.
  • Traffic Council chair providing Annual Report of the work of the Traffic Council for 2023.

Programs and Services will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Thursday, February 8 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Appointment of Eliza Spaulding to the Human Rights Commission
  • Reappointment of John Neville, Peter Doherty, Arlene Franklin, and Thomas Elkind o Newton Commonwealth Foundation
