Things kicks off with Gioachino Rossini’s iconic and irrepressible William Tell overture. Camille Saint-Saëns humorous Carnival of the Animals suite is a musical menagerie in which roaring lions, lumbering elephants, and hopping kangaroos all make their appearance. Pro Arte presents Teresa Carreño’s lovely Romance, originally scored for violin and piano, in an arrangement for cello and orchestra by principal cellist Steven Laven. Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf tells of a boy who conspires with a bird and a cat to capture a wolf who has swallowed a duck. With each character and event vividly depicted, this musical fairy tale makes the perfect end to an unforgettable experience.
