On January 17, the Newton Teachers Association (NTA) published a response to the NPS slides and discussion points presented by School Committee Chair Chris Brezski at a question-and-answer session held by NPS with PTO leaders and the public on January 16 (see Fig City News article on that session).
Among other points, the NTA stated that:
- The analysis by NPS failed to recognize that salary steps had been redefined over the last four contract years, skewing comparisons with other districts.
- The School Committee had not made a COLA proposal until mid-April 2023.
- The NPS analysis compared the NTA’s packaged COLA proposal from October with the School Committee’s most recent packaged COLA proposal.
