Newton Public Schools: Community sessions to introduce ‘Portrait of a Graduate’ project, Jan. 17 & 18

Newton Public Schools (NPS) will hold two community sessions in January to explain the upcoming “Portrait of a Graduate” project. The development phase of the project has been rescheduled to later this spring. In January, NPS invites all in the Newton community — with or without a current connection to NPS — to either of two sessions to learn why NPS will be creating a Portrait of a Graduate for the school district.

Please RSVP online to indicate your attendance at either of these sessions.

  • Wednesday, January 17, 6PM-8PM at Newton North High School
  • Thursday, January 18, 6PM-8PM at Newton South High School

NPS will describe how the world has changed and why schools must change with it. Community members will have the opportunity to provide input on what the Portrait of a Graduate will look like once the design team process starts in the spring. The sessions will explore the following questions:

  • What are the hopes, dreams, and aspirations that our community has for our young people?
  • What are the skills and mindsets that our children need for success in this rapidly changing and complex world?
  • What are the implications for the design of the learning experiences—and equitable access to those experiences—we provide in our school systems?
