- On January 5, Newton resident Jake Kornmehl was honored as a Hero Among Us during the Boston Celtics home game against the Utah Jazz for initiating efforts to raise and donate funds to local youth organizations and supporting food pantries through his nonprofit, Ice Cream Sunday. He has raised $35,000 to support food pantries in the Greater Boston area.
- Among the new directors added to the board of The Carroll Center for the Blind are two Newton residents: Chris Andreoli, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Optum Massachusetts and Robb A. Suchecki, Senior Vice President of Multinational Benefits & HR Consulting at Gallagher. The Carroll Center recently launched its Generations $18 million fundraising campaign to meet increasing demand for its vision rehabilitation services with expanded capacity and staff, and upgraded campus facilities.
- Quinnipiac University has named Jonathan Eilon, Zachary Iwatsuki, and Jillian Reingold to the Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year.
- Dr. Mēgan Kersting has been recruited to develop and guide the new Ruderman Family Foundation Fellowship for Campus Behavioral Health at William James College, to provide intensive, specialized training to address the crucial role that college faculty members play in supporting student mental health. The program is funded by the Newton-based Ruderman Family Foundation.
