On December 9, the board of the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) approved a motion “calling for an immediate and permanent cease-fire … in the genocidal war on the Palestinian people in Gaza.”
On December 12, the Newton Teachers Association (NTA) issued a statement in response, saying in part: “The NTA unequivocally dissociates itself from [the MTA’s] statement, and in particular from its antisemitic dog-whistling. The current situation in the Middle East is both tragic and incredibly complicated, with implications that extend far beyond the actual ongoing war in Gaza. …[T]he motion approved by the MTA Board will provoke further antisemitism, and it is callous.”
