Mall at Echo Bridge: Community of independent shops — Holiday event, Dec. 9

Tucked away, in a former mill site off Chestnut Street in Newton Upper Falls, is the Mall at Echo Bridge — a small community of local businesses offering an eclectic mix of goods and services. On Saturday, December 9, the Mall will host a Holiday Sip and Snack event, 12PM – 4PM. The Mall is located at 381 Elliot Street, in the historic village of Newton Upper Falls.

Lynne Robbins, owner of Lynne’s Vintique, has been in this location for seven years. Her shop carries vintage, antique, and retro furniture, clothing, and artifacts along with a variety of food offerings. She was a teacher for 38 years and also an illustrator, and she loves finding items that have a history or story to them, and sharing them with others. She is committed to supporting independent mall businesses and businesses that support social justice causes.

For instance, Lynne’s Vintique offers Dean’s Beans coffee. The company, founded by Dean Cycon, a former environmental and Indigenous rights lawyer, creates partnerships with small farm cooperatives from around the world and offers fair trade, organic, direct farm-to-roaster, shade-grown, bird friendly coffee. Lynne also offers honey and fruit preserves from local farmer and beekeeper, Peter Hauschka, and hand carvings from Vincent Nigro, a retired construction worker, furniture restorer, and local artist.

Next to Lynne’s shop is Package, owned by set designer Danika Chipman, who loves collecting and accumulated movie props from films she has worked on, which include The Discovery (2017)Gone Baby Gone (2007) and Labor Day (2013). She has always wanted to own a shop and share her collections, which currently include items from the movie American Hustle.

Further down the mall is RAD Estate Buyers, owned by Ryean Rad, who has had a shop in Gloucester for about 16 years and opened a shop at the Mall when he noticed a vacancy sign almost three years ago. He grew up in Peabody but had always wanted to locate at the Mall because of its strong community culture. RAD Estate Buyers purchases jewelry, coins, and silverware. People can bring in their items or can make an appointment, and RAD will go to their location. RAD currently has an array of antique and vintage jewelry and a goldsmith at the shop.

Other shops in the mall include Thaian’s Gallery and Echo Deco Antiques, Steve’s Antiques, Ava Antiques, Want List Records, Lara B Designs, and Nina Rachelle Interiors.
