City Clerk Carol Moore has confirmed that a recount petition has been filed for the Ward Councilor race in Ward 6, and the petition was certified as valid on November 16. The Ward 6 Ward Councilor race is decided by the voters of Ward 6, and in the November 7 municipal election, unofficial results indicate that Martha Bixby defeated Lisa Gordon by 23 votes (1320 to 1287, with 1 write-in and 98 blank votes).
City Clerk Carol Moore said that while notice of the recount has not yet been officially posted, the Clerk’s office is planning to hold the recount on December 2 at 9AM in the Druker Auditorium of the Newton Free Library.
This recount may delay the caucus of the City Councilors-Elect, currently scheduled for November 29, at which they are to elect the President of the next City Council.
