Anyone who has ever heard Rena Getz speak at a public hearing or meeting knows that her knowledge of Newton’s ordinances, zoning regulations and history is extraordinary. Rena has devoted decades to community service as a volunteer and as an elected member of the Waban Area Council.
Currently serving as President of the Waban Area Council, she has led the way in transparency in local government and education about City Hall policies and how they might affect residents. She supports meeting the Commonwealth’s 8,330-unit MBTA Communities requirement, but opposes the excessive upzoning of the Administration’s VCOD zoning proposal that is not required. She wants residents to have a vote on major zoning redesign.
Rena, a scientist who worked in medical research before starting her family, began her community service as a volunteer in the Newton Public Schools, where her three children thrived. Her husband Paul is a pediatrician.
A longtime leader in the Friends of Hemlock Gorge, supporting the preservation and maintenance of the environment along the Charles River in Upper Falls, Rena supports greater protections for Newton’s tree canopy and Newton’s green spaces. She strongly supports Newton’s historic assets, believing that historic preservation and environmental advocacy are key to advancing social justice and a brighter future for everybody.
All Newton voters can vote in Rena’s Ward 5 At-Large race.
I urge you to vote ONLY for Rena to improve her chances of winning one of the two seats available in that race. (While the ballot says “vote for two,” voting for one, and only one, candidate in a three-way race for two seats will count more heavily and is allowed.)
