My name is Julia Gaebler. As a Ward 2 resident and long time Horace Mann parent activist, I am writing to enthusiastically encourage you to join me in supporting David Micley for Ward 2 City Councilor. I have come to know David closely on the campaign trail, and I am convinced that there is no candidate that is a better and more committed advocate and supporter of Newton Public Schools than David Micley. So much of this race has become about zoning, but David has put our schools front and center. For David, supporting our schools isn’t just a campaign talking point — he’s been advocating for our schools to be better supported since the pandemic. This is why the majority of Ward 2 NPS educators and many NPS parents like me are supporting his campaign.
What also makes David unique is that he is a former teacher and his wife, Molly Chadis (NNHS 04), is a former Bigelow Social worker: Their family has a deep, firsthand understanding of the academic and mental health needs of our students and what our schools and teachers need to succeed.
Finally, David is the father of three children, the oldest of whom will be in Kindergarten in Newton Public Schools this upcoming September. He therefore has a long journey ahead in NPS and personal and immediate interest in ensuring that our schools are a desired place of learning for his own and all students.
