Weed & Gewirtz: Micley is the schools candidate

As the parents of current Cabot school students, we are writing to enthusiastically encourage you to join us in supporting David Micley for Ward 2 City Councilor. We think his unique and focused advocacy for more funding to bridge the budget and resourcing gap we believe is critical for the success of teachers and students. And will bring Newton back among the top public school systems in the region.

What gives us such conviction? We got to know David closely on the campaign trail and there is no candidate that is a more committed advocate of the Newton Public Schools than David. For David, supporting our schools isn’t just a campaign talking point — he’s been advocating for our schools for years, which is why the majority of Ward 2 Newton Public School educators are supporting his campaign. David is committed to fighting for reasonable class sizes, better mental health support, a rigorous academic environment, and fair pay for our teachers so we can attract and retain the best.

Part of what makes David unique is that he is a former teacher and his wife, Molly Chadis (NNHS 04) is a former Bigelow Social worker, so their family has a deeper first hand understanding of the academic and mental health needs of our students and what our schools need to succeed.

As a father of three children (the oldest of whom will be in Kindergarten in Newton Public Schools this upcoming September), David has a personal and present interest in ensuring our schools are a desired place of learning for all students.

Vote Micley – he is the Newton Public Schools’ candidate in this race!
