I’m writing to support Dan Gaynor for Ward 2 City Councilor. I had the pleasure of meeting Dan a few months ago to discuss some issues of importance to me, including Newton’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. It was clear from that conversation that Dan shared deeply in that commitment, but more importantly, as our conversation advanced, it was also clear that he had a nuanced understanding of a range of issues that will impact the quality of life of Newton residents.
I agree with the majority of the current city councilors who have endorsed him because they believe he brings a pragmatic, common-sense, collaborative approach to solving our city’s complex challenges. He prioritizes using objective data and facts, not ideology, as the basis for making informed decisions. On the hot-button issue of housing, his approach seeks to strike a balance between progress and preserving our neighborhoods, while embracing community input from the start of the planning process.
I believe that Dan’s thoughtful and nuanced approach will best advance Newton towards our shared goals: fostering walkable, more affordable, and accessible villages for residents of all ages and a wider range of income levels; creating a greener future by promoting energy efficiency, reducing fossil fuel usage, and incorporating clean technology in new buildings; supporting our incredible public schools; and sustaining small, independent businesses.
Dan Gaynor’s focus on these priorities reflects his commitment to the well-being of our community and residents. His approach is rooted in inclusivity, informed decision-making, and a vision for a more diverse, welcoming Newton. I encourage all Ward 2 residents to vote for Dan Gaynor on or before November 7.
