Sharma: Doris Ann Sweet for Ward 4 Councilor

I write to enthusiastically share my support for Doris Ann Sweet for Ward 4 Councilor. I have known Doris Ann for 20 years and currently work alongside her on the Outreach Board at the United Parish of Auburndale. She is thoughtful, tireless, and a person of great integrity.

Doris Ann’s career as a reference librarian has uniquely prepared her to be a terrific resource for her constituents, navigating Newton’s abundant resources and city departments to find solutions to problems big and small. As the parent and grandparent of Newton Public Schools graduates, she understands the criticality of maintaining excellence in our schools. In her 45 years in Newton, Doris Ann has seen the challenges of operating a small business in Auburndale Center, the struggle of those unable to make ends meet, and the day-to-day difficulties experienced by the disability community. Doris Ann will be a thoughtful representative for all Ward 4 residents.

As a founder and active member of the Engine 6 Newton housing advocacy group, Doris Ann has truly ‘walked the walk’ in supporting more affordable and diverse housing options in Newton. As Newton becomes more and more unattainable for young adults, families, and older adults who want to downsize but remain in Newton, Doris Ann is committed to addressing the issue in a way that will also bring vitality and better environmental sustainability to our city.

Doris Ann is the forward-looking, progress-focused, and collaborative candidate Newton needs to face the critical challenges of our day. I encourage other Ward 4 voters to join me in voting for her.
