Nedeljkovic: Lisa Gordon for City Council

Newton is fortunate to have excellent candidates for City Council. It is sometimes difficult to decide between candidates who are your neighbors and friends. In this election, I’d like to tell you why I am supporting Lisa Gordon for Ward 6 councilor.

Lisa is a strong advocate for:

  • Making our transportation system better and more equitable
  • Improving the Bathhouse at Crystal Lake and enhancing access to the beach
  • Supporting new growth in Newton and making Newton a welcoming city
  • Preserving Newton’s environment, open space, and historical resources.

Lisa understands that we need more options for getting around Newton and that those options should include a more frequent, accessible, and reliable transit system. Bicycle safety is paramount to increase its use, and Lisa is eager to implement the city’s new Bicycle Plan.

Like many of us, Lisa appreciates the unique beauty of Crystal Lake. She will work towards a vigorous public process that will lead towards a new Crystal Lake Bathhouse and an improved beach and park.

Lisa supports new development in Newton and is committed towards having Newton be a vibrant and inclusive city that increases our diversity in many ways. She understands the importance of keeping our village centers economically vibrant, strong, and places that we all enjoy going to.

As a strong supporter of the environment, open space, and preserving our history, Lisa will work towards preserving our built and natural resources. Lisa knows that we need to balance growth with protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices. She knows that it is important to maintain the continuity of our historical neighborhoods through their preservation.

Importantly, Lisa Gordon represents what many of us wish to see in Newton: a City Councilor who is responsive and receptive towards the input and views of her constituents.
