Micley: Why I am running for Ward 2 City Councilor

I am running to represent Ward 2 on the Newton City Council because our city is at an inflection point, and I believe my experience, skills and perspective match what Ward 2 voters tell me they are looking for as we consider significant growth and change in the months and years ahead.

I love Newton. My wife and I were raised here, and we came back to Newton to raise our three kids. I began my career as a teacher, and after that worked in the public, non-profit, and private sectors — community organizing for affordable housing in Dorchester, fundraising at Combined Jewish Philanthropies, building educational programs in Israel, advising pension funds at Bridgewater, and earning an MBA at MIT.

I started this campaign knocking on doors and asking voters what they are looking for in their Ward Councilor because I want resident input to be at the heart of the campaign.

And what did I hear? That you want Newton to do a better job repairing streets and sidewalks. That you are committed to our schools, and want our kids to get a world class education, with teachers and staff who are respected and fairly compensated. That you want us to lead when it comes to climate change and environmental protection. And that as the City Council undertakes zoning redesign, you want your Ward Councilor to put you first, over the profit demands of private developers. My commitment to you is to deliver, to the best of my ability, on all of those issues.

If I have not met you at your door yet, I look forward to doing so soon. Please feel free to email me at micleyfornewton@gmail.com or call or text me at 617-413-6330. I hope to earn your vote on or before November 7.
