Lipsitt: Dan Gaynor for Ward 2 Councilor

We are extremely fortunate to have an experienced and capable candidate like Dan Gaynor to represent Ward 2 on the City Council. His focus on sustainability, affordability, and walkability informs his approach to the zoning proposals now before the Council. He understands the importance of keeping our village centers strong and promoting small business by increasing housing. His concerns are typified in the closing of Bigelow Cleaners in Newton Centre, a 90-year institution that failed for lack of foot traffic. Dan knows that if local businesses are to survive and thrive we need more people living, eating and doing business in our village centers. His approach is to use objective data, not ideology, as the foundation for making smart decisions about the future of our community.

Dan has a strong focus on environmental sustainability, an area in which he has spent much of his professional life. His work in this area has gained endorsements from community environmental leaders. He has also been endorsed by civic organizations including Voters for a Vibrant Newton, Engine 6, and the Newton Gun Violence Prevention Collaborative.

Gaynor’s deep understanding of how we can use zoning reform to benefit both residents and small businesses, his focus on families, his willingness to listen and his commitment to integrity have led me to support him. His pragmatic, common-sense approach to solving Newton’s hardest challenges is just what we need. Please join me in voting Dan Gaynor for Ward 2 Councilor on November 7!
