As an education policy advocate, I wholeheartedly endorse Dan Gaynor for Newton City Council. Our schools are integral to our community, shaping responsible citizens and making Newton a sought-after place for families. With educators currently negotiating their next contract, it’s paramount to focus on retaining and attracting top-notch teachers.
Dan Gaynor understands how to do just that. He has specific plans to retain young, promising educators and elevate support services for our students.
The national teacher shortage affects not only our nation, but also in Massachusetts, which boasts the best public schools in the country. With a significant portion of Newton employees living outside the city due to affordability, we face challenges in attracting and retaining educators. The City Council can play a pivotal role in fostering affordable housing, increasing revenue for our education budget, and investing in cutting-edge classrooms.
The recent operating override’s failure is disappointing, especially considering that 75% of the proposal was designated for our schools. Dan Gaynor is committed to conveying the trade-offs associated with overrides transparently and simplifying ballot questions to clarify the allocation of tax dollars. Gaynor believes in treating our teachers with fairness and dignity, offering competitive benefits, addressing rising healthcare premiums, and hiring more support staff to support our educators.
Dan Gaynor, a lifelong resident and a father of a future Cabot School student, is deeply invested in Newton’s schools. He knows they are our crown jewel and will work tirelessly to support our incredible educators. Let’s vote for Dan Gaynor to secure a brighter future for Newton.
