Area Councils seek poll workers for early voting and election day

The four Neighborhood Area Councils (Newtonville, Upper Falls, Waban, and Newton Highlands) are recruiting people to staff the Area Council election tables during Early Voting at City Hall (October 28 – November 1) and on Election Day (November 7). The pay is $15 per hour. Sign up here for a shift or two to sit at the tables designated by the City for handing out and collecting ballots for the Area Councils elections.

In the past, Newton has provided poll workers to staff the Area Council elections. This year, the City has asked Area Councils to recruit poll workers to work the Area Council elections.

Requirements

  • The minimum time slot is 2 hours; you may work as many as can or as few as you want.
  • You must complete a CORI form (PDF) and bring it to the Clerk’s office in City Hall by October 26. If you already have a CORI check performed for a specific NPS school or Newton organization, you must do it again for this specific task.
  • Current Area Councilors running for reelection or new candidates on the ballot cannot staff races in their own catchment area nor staff a table at City Hall during early voting.
  • Current Area Councilors who are NOT running for re-election are not restricted from any polling location or City Hall. As long as they are not running for re-election (or election in any other races), they can work any catchment area.
  • The minimum age requirement is 16. High school students are eligible to volunteer.
