Wednesday Program for Senior Learners, Oct. 4 – Nov. 8

The Wednesday Program for Senior Learners held at 2Life Communities‘ Coleman House in Newton (677 Winchester Street) is a six-week, lifelong-learning program that offers people the opportunity to gather in person to explore, discover, and make new friends. Its fall semester runs October 4 through November 8.

The schedule includes:

  • 11:30AM — Gentle Tai Chi (seated or standing) with 2nd-degree black belt Phyllis Benjamin (age 70)
  • 1PM — Educational lecture
  • 2:15PM — Entertainment
  • 3:30PM — Creative collaborations art group, where participants can explore new skills and materials in collage, printmaking, and sculpture, just to name a few.

Educational sessions for Fall 2023 include explorations of the Gullah Geechee culture of the American South, Allied Propaganda of WWII, and the historic Jewish experience in Rome. Later in the afternoons, we will celebrate Oktoberfest with acclaimed accordionist Sonny Arbato, move to the rhythms of Latin Jazz with Combo Sabroso, and discover Opera with Madeline Metraux, a 15-year-old vocal virtuoso.

The program cost for Fall 2023 is $85 ($75 if you bring your own lunch), which includes a boxed lunch — a sandwich (turkey, roast beef, chicken or tuna salad, etc.) fruit, chips, cookies and bottled water. All are also welcome to bring their own lunch. Participants are encouraged to bring a friend along, as all are welcome. Individual sessions are $15 per day.
