Soon after the polls closed, Martha Bixby told Fig City News that she was humbled by the support she received. She was especially excited in her first time seeking elective office. Ms Bixby said the primary result shows the resonance of her message that Newton can do great things when the community comes together.

Commenting on the primary results, Lisa Gordon said she was beyond humbled by the support she received, expressing her gratitude to the voters, City election officials and poll workers, her supporters and volunteers, her opponents Martha Bixby and Mark Holt for their candidacies and willingness to serve, and most of all to her family.

Gordon said she is the only candidate with the experience and vision to navigate Ward 6 through upcoming significant changes. She said that she knows Newton, knows City Hall, and intends to help create a more vibrant and welcoming Newton. Asked how she intends to close the preliminary vote gap between Martha Bixby and herself, Gordon said her campaign plans to present voters with a choice “between a candidate who believes Ward 6 residents deserve a voice in the decisions that affect them directly — parking requirements, street-by-street density allocations, green and open spaces preservation to name a few — and a candidate who doesn’t.”

Speaking on election night, Mark Holt congratulated Martha Bixby and Lisa Gordon. He said Ward 6 voters have a choice of two great candidates in November, and that both are clearly committed citizens. Mr. Holt said he enjoyed the campaign and described the process as a lot of fun. Looking to the future, he plans to run for the Governor’s Council in 2024, to continue his fight to end unfunded mandates such as the MBTA Communities Act.
