City Council

Land Use will meet on Tuesday and discuss four Special Permit applications:

  • Construction of a second driveway resulting in two vehicles within the front setback at 97 Waban Hill Road North
  • Amendment to previously approved Special Permit to allow expanded hours of operation for the patio until 10 PM at 344-346 Elliot Street
  • Demolition of existing dwelling and construction of three single-family attached dwellings at 236 Chapel Street
  • Demolition of existing dwelling and detached garage and construction of five residential dwelling units in three buildings at 290 Watertown Street

Boards and Commissions

Planning and Development Board will meet on Monday and discuss the following:

  • Recommendation of Landmark Proposals for 19 Highland Avenue and 2-12 Windsor Road
  • Discussion of Rezoning Petition for lots at 132 Charles Street
  • Continuation of Public Hearing for request for discussion and amendments to the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map (VCOD) and discussion on state guidance for implementing the Housing Choice Bill – NOTE: No public comments at this meeting
  • Discussion and possible ordinance to allow for breweries, brew pubs, and other craft beverage production

Economic Development Commission will meet on Tuesday and discuss:

  • Strengthening Village Centers – Letter of Support for Village Center Overlay District
  • Increasing Newton’s Tax Base – Guest Speaker, Greatland Realty Partners, and an update on California Street Study Findings
  • DEI and Immigrant Entrepreneur Awards
  • Facilitate Owning & Operating Businesses – update on Outdoor Dining and Bottling & Craft Breweries

Community Preservation Committee will meet on Tuesday and discuss:

  • Pre-Proposal Review for the Family Access Davis School Renovation Project ($800,000 in Historic Resource Funds)
  • Final Report on the Newton Community Farm Farmhouse Rehabilitation and Restoration Project

Design Review Committee will meet on Wednesday and discuss:

  • Lincoln Eliot: Review the 90% LE School construction documents and DRC comments. Anticipate voting to complete the documents and put the project out to bid.
  • Countryside: Schematic Design Progress Review

Urban Design Commission will meet on Wednesday and discuss:

  • 3 Requests for Certificate of Appropriateness:
    • 48 Pettee Street – to replace siding, trim, and entry porch decking and railings.
    • 1268 Boylston Street, Unit B to remediate work to install a fence and shed.
    • 1268 Boylston Street, Unit B to remediate work to install mini-splits and conduits and to install front gable vent and replace rear gable vent.
  • Discussion of Violation of the Historic District Ordinance at 1268 Boylston Street, Unit B Work done to install mini-splits and conduits that were not granted any Certificates of Appropriateness

Mass Development Housing Agency will hold a telephonic public hearing (Dial In: (888-305-1655; Participant Code: 309-639) on Tuesday, August 4 at 10AM regarding the proposed issuance by MassDevelopment of $20,000,000 in bonds for the financing and/or refinancing of and the reimbursement of funds advanced by Lasell Village with respect to property at 120 Seminary Avenue. People may comment at the public hearing or submit comments in writing prior to the public hearing by mail to Massachusetts Development Finance Agency, 99 High Street, 11th Floor, Boston, MA 02110.
