The Newton Conservators is (are?) hosting a free Newton Pollinator Garden Tour of public and private pollinator gardens on September 17, 1PM-4PM, starting at Wellington Park (off Kilburn Road, West Newton).
- The North Area (1PM-3PM) will focus on Wellington Park and nearby private, front-yard gardens.
- The South Area (2PM-4PM) will focus on Community Demonstration Pollinator Gardens at City Hall and Cold Spring Park.
Attendees can use this link or the QR code above to register for maps and detailed planting lists — and then drop in at the various gardens during the time periods listed above. There will be volunteers to answer questions and provide information on the development of the gardens. See the link above for more details.
Why pollinator gardens? Gardens with native plants can be both beautiful and functional at sustaining our pollinators. Our environment is at risk because of precipitous declines in native plants and the insects, birds, and other animals that depend on those plants. Check out the Newton Pollinator Toolkit which is a great guide to what plants work for various conditions in the Newton area.
The tour is sponsored by the Newton Community Pollinator Project in conjunction with the Newton Conservators, Newton Parks Recreation and Culture Department, Green Newton, Friends of Cold Spring Park, Friends of Wellington Park, and the Mystic Charles Pollinator Pathways Group.
