The City of Newton is holding a long public hearing on version 2.0 of its Village Center Overlay District (VCOD) zoning proposal, in various forms throughout the summer.
- The hearing opened on June 26 with public comment at a hybrid meeting of the City Council’s Zoning and Planning Committee. Over 600 attended (100 in person and 500 on Zoom), of which about 56 presented testimony or comments (see video and Fig City News article).
- The Zoning and Planning Committee will hear additional public comment at its July 24 hybrid meeting (City Council Chamber at City Hall or this Zoom link). The meeting will start at 6:30PM with one other item taking 30-45 minutes on the agenda before public comment. If it is like the June 26 meeting, some members of the public attending in person will be arriving early, before the meeting starts, in order to sign up to speak.)
- Throughout the summer, the public may submit comments by email to citycouncil@newtonma.gov with copy to the Committee Clerk, Jaclyn Norton, at jnorton@newtonma.gov.
- The Zoning and Planning Committee will continue to discuss the proposal at its July 31 meeting and will hear additional public comments in September.
