Traffic Council – 6/15/2023 Report

The following petitions were approved by the Traffic Council (see Report). NOTE: These Traffic Council decisions may be appealed through the close of business on July 5, 2023.

  • Restrict parking on both sides of the narrow section (suggested by the Newton Fire Department) of Troy Lane, as well as around the cul-de-sac, in order to ensure access to trash, recycling, and emergency vehicles. Parking would not be restricted on either side of the wide section of Troy Lane. (5-0)
  • Restrict parking at all times on one side of Johnson Place, to help improve safety. (1) Prohibited, all days, east side. (2) Prohibited, all days, from Auburn Street to a point 50 feet south of Auburn Street, west side. (3) Two-hour limit except by Auburndale Permit, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from a point 50 feet south of Auburn Street to end, west side.
  • Remove an accessible parking space at 58 Churchill Street as it is no longer needed.
  • Modify parking regulations on the west side of Adams Street within 50 feet of Clinton Street, both sides. Parking was recently restricted on one side of Clinton Street to allow for emergency vehicle access and safety. The approved item would swap the parking by adding a space on one side and removing a space on the opposite side.
  • Change the free 1-hour parking zone on the north side of Washington Street in the area of Honda Village and Walgreens into a free 2-hour parking zone, for the convenience of customers.
  • Change all the 1-hour on-street parking meters along Washington Street and Centre Street in Newton Corner into 2-hour meters. The change does not include the Pearl Street or Richardson Street Parking Lots.
  • Change the 30-minute space and the 1-hour meter on Charlesbank Road into two long-term metered parking spaces.

The Traffic Council voted to hold the following:

  • Request for an update to the Traffic and Parking Regulations to allow nonmotorized vehicles (bicycles) to legally travel southbound on the one-way northbound block of Brookside Avenue between Watertown Street and Albemarle Road for long-term trial. Marked lanes and signs are to be installed, and no parking removed. A request was also made to add flex posts.
