The Newton Conservators will host another Bio-Blitz — Dip-netting for Aquatic Invertebrates — on July 26, 4PM-6PM, at the Dolan Pond Conservation Area (near 66 Cumberland Road, West Newton).
Dolan Pond is one of Newton’s most accessible open spaces with its boardwalk, pond overlooks, and accessible paths. The vernal pools and swampy areas there are fertile ground for adding new species to the existing iNaturalist nature survey of the area as part of the Newton Conservators’ Bio-Blitz series led by naturalist Jon Regosin. Survey the ponds and wetlands, learn what is there, and post observations to the iNaturalist database. Learn how to identify what creatures and plants are in our wild park areas. You do not need to be an experienced naturalist or expert to participate. Families are welcome. Parking can be found at a number of the entrances at Dolan Pond but we will meet at the Cumberland Road entrance where there is also on-street parking. In case of heavy rain, the event may be canceled or postponed. Registration is encouraged but not required.
