Zoning and Planning will meet jointly with the Planning and Development Board in person (Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, July 24 at 6:30PM. The agenda includes the following:
- Public Hearing on a Request to amend the City of Newton’s Zoning Map by changing the current zoning of the property known as and numbered 126-132 Charles Street currently zoned as Multi-Residence 1 and Manufacturing to Mixed Use 1. See Planning Memo.
Chair’s Note: The Committee will hold up to 1.5 hours of testimony for those unable to testify at the first night of hearings and then continue the public hearing to early September. The committee will resume discussion on 38-22 after taking up item 206-23 (the Brewery, Brew Pub, and other Craft Beverage Production item). See Chair’s memo suggesting a strategy for organizing the next several meetings on this item.
- Continued Public Hearing on a Request to review, discuss, and possible ordinance amendments relative to Chapter 30 zoning ordinances pertaining to Mixed Use, business districts, and village districts relative to the draft Zoning Ordinance.

- Request for a discussion and possible ordinance to allow for breweries, brew pubs, and other craft beverage production and remove the prohibition on bottling alcoholic beverages and propose opportunities for other craft beverage production and accessory retail. See Planning Memo.
- Request for a discussion on state guidance for implementing the Housing Choice element of the MA Economic Development legislation.
Land Use will meet in person (Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, July 25 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following requests:
- Amend a previously approved Special Permit/Site Plan Approval related to the vibration control condition and units which were designated to conform to MAAB requirements at 136-144 Hancock Street
- Amend a previously approved Special Permit/Site Plan Approval related to the vibration control condition at 106 River Street
- Amend a previously approved Special Permit/Site Plan Approval related to the vibration control condition at 71 Commonwealth Avenue.
