Free walking tour of Hemlock Gorge, June 11

On June 11, 10AM-12PM, the Friends of Hemlock Gorge and the Newton Conservators will jointly host a free tour of Hemlock Gorge park, “hidden” at the intersection of Routes 9 and 95. Designed by Charles Eliot of the Olmsted design firm, it was once a Sunday destination for thousands of Boston city dwellers. The tour will visit the historic Echo Bridge, include some history and geology, and explore the stunning topography and views. The walk includes some steep slopes and uneven terrain. Meet at the Hamilton Place entrance / lot off Central Avenue (on the Needham side of the Charles River). (There are only a few parking spots at Hamilton Place, so park in the Mills Falls lot at the intersection of Chestnut and Elliot Streets — only a few minutes walk from the meeting point.) In the event of steady rain, the rain date is Sunday June 25, 10AM-12PM.
