Waban Resident Chris Pitts has been very active over the years to bring to Newton “outstanding cultural performances that not only entertain but also celebrate excellence.” Chris has been in the music business since the 1970s, both as a performer and a producer. Using his skills, he has taken Newton’s cultural scene to new heights. He is the founder of the Piano Summit, Chair of the Festival of the Arts, and has helped showcase talent at local Village Days.
In his latest venture, Chris will be holding his first Newton Jazz Jam, which will take place at the Moldova Restaurant (344 Watertown Street, Nonantum) on Tuesday, June 27 at 7PM. He states that this idea is reminiscent of the days when he used to organize similar sessions in his hometown of Detroit, and he hopes to recreate a similar “dynamic energy” in Newton. “My goal has always been simple and direct: to present remarkable performances that demonstrate a profound dedication to the artistry and craft of music.”
The monthly event — hosted by Chris Pitts, Richard Hale Shaw, and Artur Andronic — will feature Chris Pitts (sax), Alexei Tsiganov (piano), Richard Hale Shaw (bass), and Gillian De Lear (drums). Chris reports that Artur Andronic, owner of Moldova, shares this vision and will be hosting live music along with providing an excellent Eastern European dining experience for patrons.
