At the meeting of the Zoning and Planning Committee Tuesday night, the City’s Planning Department — led by Director Barney Heath with Deputy Director Jenn Caira, Long Range Planner Zach LaMel, and consultants from Utile, Tim Love, Loren Rapport, and Will Cohen — provided a brief presentation to the whole City Council and answered questions about the Village Center Overlay District proposal currently under consideration. Ward 5 At-Large Councilor and Committee Chair Deb Crossley wanted to provide an opportunity for all Councilors to learn more about the proposals in advance of the public hearing that will be held on Monday, June 26.
Chair Crossley said, “I thought the team did a superb job laying out key elements of the proposal in a condensed presentation. They made clear the problems we must address, the flaws in our existing zoning, key elements of the proposed new rules, design controls embedded in the proposed zoning – and how we can use this to satisfy the MBTA Communities Law.”
